We welcome newcomers ready to take on the challenge of learning to row, with a view to becoming a member of our club. Each year, we run taster sessions where you can find out more about rowing and the club. Following on from the taster sessions, places are allocated on a Learn to Row course on a first come first served basis.
Our Learn to Row courses are organised in two stages. Stage 1 runs for 8 sessions, on Saturdays and Monday evenings. The first session is land-based, learning about rowing movement patterns and techniques using ergometers (rowing machines), and getting familiar with rowing terminology. The following sessions are on the water in stable boats, working towards Group 1 competencies and progression as shown here. The conditions on the lake are not always suitable for beginners and so inevitably some sessions will be on land. We hope at the end of Stage 1 you will be ready to progress to Stage 2.
Stage 2 runs for 16 sessions, on Saturdays and Monday evenings when you will join members of the club in crew boats as well as continuing to develop your Group 2 skills in smaller boats. At the end of Stage 2, if all things go well, you will be invited to join the club and form part of our friendly community of passionate amateur rowers.
Costs (including use of all equipment are):
Stage 1 – £100
Stage 2 – £115
Bursaries may be available for those on low incomes. Please contact us for further details.
