Learn to Row

Each year, the club runs a Learn to Row course for newcomers to the sport wishing to start rowing. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Each course runs for 8 sessions, usually on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm. Session 1 and 2 are land-based, learning about rowing movement patterns and technique using ergometers (rowing machines) and getting familiar with the rowing terminology. Sessions 3 to 8 are mainly on the water in stable single (1 person) and double (2 people) sculling boats. These build on the skills learned in the land sessions and help gain confidence on the water.

Following completion of the course, if you would like to continue rowing you will be able to join our squad training sessions for Groups 1 and 2. These are on Saturday 9:30am and Monday 6:30pm on the water throughout the summer, with a land training session on Thursday evenings.

Please click here for information about the different groups and group progression. Our goal is to provide something for everyone, whether that’s learning a new skill, meeting some new people, getting a bit fitter, or training to compete at events.

The cost of the course is £200 which covers the 8 session course plus 2 months adult membership.
